INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING AND SMALL GROUP COUNSELING

School counseling is provided on a small group or individual basis for students expressing difficulties dealing with academics, personal issues, and social skills building. Individual and small group counseling services are brief sessions that typically can last anywhere from 1-6 sessions. We do not provide therapeutic services and may need to refer a student to an outside counseling agency if more sessions are needed. Please feel free to contact your child's School Counselor if you would like a list of local outside counseling agencies.

Individual Counseling: One-on-one setting

Small Group Counseling: A group of no more than 8 students, with the same identified interest or needs

Referral Process

All students at Fairfield Middle School are able to meet with their assigned School Counselor. In an effort for our School Counseling Department to respect your child's instructional time, we encourage all referrals to please follow the referral process. There are 3 ways to see the counselor:

  1. Self-referral: students may see their School Counselor before school, during the change of classes, during their lunch period, and/or after school. For emergency situations, a student may ask a teacher for a pass to see their School Counselor,
  2. Parent/Guardian referral: As a parent/guardian, if you see that your child may benefit from speaking with their School Counselor, please feel free to contact us via email or call us to schedule a conference to meet with you to discuss your concerns. Parent/Guardian Referral Form
  3. Teacher or Staff referral: teacher's may refer a student to their School Counselor if they have any concerns with that student's behavior, personal/social interactions, and academic concerns. Teachers will submit referrals via email, conference with the counselor, or send the student to their School Counselor.
